Calls for action in support of civic space and CSO accountability

Adopted on July 6, 2021, The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Recommendation on Enabling Civil Society in Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance is a call for action to providers which addresses three inter-linked pillars to enable civil society by: 1) respecting and protecting civic space; 2) supporting and engaging with civil society; and 3) incentivizing CSO effectiveness, transparency and accountability.

In early 2021, as part of the Open Renewal campaign, the OGP co-chairs launched a global call to action for all OGP members to use their new and existing action plans to make ambitious commitments that address challenges civic space and public participation, anti-corruption and digital innovation. With respect to the cluster around civic space and public participation, recommendations for safeguarding freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of assembly are made, including on transparency on funding of NGOs and their accountability.
